Installation disc wont work

hi im kinda upset be cause im not sure what to do. my hard drive was really
busy, so i decided to do a fresh start. i used my xp home eddition disc SP2
to deleted everything and start again, everything was good, but then when 35
minutes left (estimate) to end installation the computer froze, i tried
several times to do this and always froze at 35 minutes left, i took the disc
and was a bit dirty and some scratchs at the end, im wondering maybe the disc
is not in conditions any more, and if that is the case, what i can do, now i
cant use my other computer be cause when i turn it on it asks me for the
installation disc.
how can i reinstall xp again on my other computer? do i have to buy another
xp installation disc? ty for ur help in advance

Hello,

Are you using a USB Keyboard or Mouse with a XP SP1 setup disc? See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/815319

Slipstream your disc with the latest SP3 and see if problems persist
http://www.google.com/search?q=slipstream+sp3

When you do the above, you can burn a new SP3 disc and use it to install XP.

Had the very same problem not too long ago. I borrowed one of those
disc cleaners that spin the disk by hand-operated crank...after
spraying the disk with the cleaning agent. It worked but I made a
clone of the CD which worked perfectly next time doing the reinstall
(on another PC)

Dish detergent, tap water and a soft paper towel doesn't require any
contraption.

When you take the install CD to another computer, can you copy all the
files off the CD without any errors to a temp folder on the hard drive?

md c:\temp
xcopy d:\* c:\temp /h /v

where, in this example, C: is a drive on your hard disk and D: is the
CD/DVD drive.

Be leery of advice from a SPAMMER who has a different agenda than the
pretense of giving help. This one does knows how to put his spam in a
signature but refuses to do so because some newsreaders strip off the
signature. He wants to ensure you see his spam.

This is often caused by having unnecessary USB peripheral devices
connected during the installation.

Fine....for your 3rd World country.....but the "contraption" is far
more thorough than a dirty old dish rag (God know just WHERE it has
been!! <shudders>) leaving streaks of nameless germ-laden crap on an
otherwise could-be pristine cd/dvd. No need to "slum it" nowadays,
