New windows while exploring directories

I am having some problems exploring directories in XP. Each time I browse a
folder , a new window opens up. I have set the correct setting in the folders
options to open each folder in the same window. However this setting is being
ignored.

Funnily enough if if I change any other directory browser settings from the
same folder options such as to us standard XP windows or classic windows
folders the browsing windows change correctly each time I change that
setting.

Any ideas ?

Create a new user profile and retry from here. If this works, cop your
old user profile to the new user and then delete the old profile.

thanks for your answer. I realized that the problem was coming not from the
setting I talked about but from the file associations that are set from the
third tab on that folder settings windows. It seems that the actions
associated with the folders were corrupted and I could not edit them. I could
only add actions but I could not find the executables to link to the nezw
actions I created.

Anyway, I used the system restore function in XP to restore to a point saved
a couple of days ago and that fixed the problem. I guess that the restoration
actually performs the actions you have suggested.
