new speaker

I have a compac presario 5000. It had speaker connections in the moniter I
had. I have recently gotten a new moniter, so therefore I had to get new
speakers because my old speakers connected to moniter. The new moniter does
not have a receptical for speakers. I got new speakers and plugged them into
my computer receptical. I am having trouble listening to any audio and my
volume control no longer exists. I thought you just plug speakers and go,
but I now see I need some software to get me going. Anybody got any ideas?
thanks Lane

1) The word is 'monitor'
2) It's 'receptacle' though what exactly you mean by this is anyone's
guess.
3) Speakers do not plug into the monitor - your monitor has no means of
producing sound, therefore why does it require speakers?
4) RTFM that came with the speakers to learn how to set them up.
5) If you're still hearing no sound, then download and install the latest
driver for your sound card, and check that all the volume levels are high
enough and nothing is muted.
6) If, after you've exhausted all the above, you still hear nothing
either the speakers - or the sound card might be faulty. You would need a
known working set of speakers and a known working card to test, though.

Its never takes an apostrophe - except when it means "it is" (a contraction).
