Speaker Problem

Ok first this is my first thread second HELP ME!!!!!! I know computers very well but this problem is one I have never ever seen in my live. Ok my speakers are plugged in correctly, the green light is on but the computer isn't picking the speakers up. When I open up iTunes i get this message: iTunes had detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. Well i can tell you this much it doesn't work at all. My best guess is that the installation either get deleted or moved and it cannot be found.... my wife was messing around on the computer the other day trying to "clean it up' it's a computer how clean can it be.

Can anyone direct me to a installation page for my speakers? please

P.S. I have a Windows xp home Edition ( Compaq ) and my speakers are FLC Presario Speaker System.

Edit: Yes I have restarted the computer.
