"new slide" shortcut

My "new slide" shortcut only duplicates the type of a slide I have on the
screen at the time. To get a different type slide I have to go to "slide
design". I know that "new slide" should take me right there but it doesn't.
How do I make it do that.

Do the following:
1. Select "Tools" | "Options..." menu item.
2. In the "View" tab, place a check against "New slide dialog" box.
3. Click OK.

Now when you add a new slide, it will ask you the slide layout.
