New Site Address update...Let 'em know they're crass idiots

Update to idiocy:

Just spent an hour on the phone with my ISP accounting division
They refuse to put up or allow me to put up 2 redirect pages for a week
or so,
so that my 500 unique visitors a day can find my new site address.
Tech support was more than willing but had to defer to policy.

Oh...I can pay to have both locations available...doubling my
cost, but that's all. Arguements of convenience to my visitors
good relations to site owners and web-surfers, and reducing 403 requests
fell
on deaf, non-thinking, non-technical ears.

Like Henk's dumping by his ISP (they at least apologized and
gave him his site back the next day) This is just idiocy and
I perceive it as more persecution of Freeware sites...

Please write them at :

(e-mail address removed)

to protest their stupid policy. Maybe they can still learn.....

I think you will be hard-pressed to find a hosting provider that would be
willing to help (for free) someone who is leaving their service. I used to
work for a mid-sized ISP and what these people are doing is pretty standard,
although it would have been nice if they offered you a temporary redirect
service at a reduced rate.

Does an extra week of their hosting really cost that much? Is that why you
left them?

No, I have not left them, merely changed usernames. And I could not buy
a week...or two
for that matter. This AM I received a phone call threatening legal
action if I didn't take down my request
to email (e-mail address removed) to protest this policy on my SoverNet page
OR ANY OF MY OTHER MIRRORS.

I have complied. They're still idiots.

I never even looked at your URL until now...bad Jim!

If they're your ISP this all makes sense: your web space is directly
attached to your username -- when you changed the username the old account
was cancelled.

I'm glad they reactivated the old space for you. Too bad it had to take
concentrated A.C.F. e-mail power to do it.
