NEW REALTEC AUDIO DRIVERS

No, don't do any registry editing to try to resolve your issue. Windows
will keep re-discovering your hardware, for one thing, and re-write the
entries. It's only adding to the registry what it sees; it can't make up
the hardware ID's that are physically true for your computer, since that
info is coming from the hardware itself. Steer clear of the registry.

The hardware IDs indeed point to a Realtek High Definition Audio device,
ALC880 to be exact. See:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=28&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=42

Currently, is your sound working?

Do you have two sound devices under "Sound, video and game controllers" in
Device Manager? Again, regarding the device with the exclamation mark, what
exactly is the the name of the device? Is Realtek in the name, or does it
show just High Definition Audio Device? Physically, does you computer have
two separate sets of speaker jacks (that are connected to two different
hardware devices inside your computer), one set that you don't use?

If you have two sound devices, as Cal Bear has said, and you don't want it
in Device Manager, you'll have to disable the onboard (built-in to your
motherboard) sound in your BIOS Setup; then only the Creative hardware will
show in Device Manager. Or, in Device Manager, as Cal Bear has said,
right-click on the device, and choose Disable (don't choose Uninstall). This
approach will continue to show the device, but put it out of commission...

One thing I would like to add to this discussion, for what it is worth, is that
it IS possible to have BOTH an onboard Realtek HD Audio adapter AND a Creative
PCI audio card (X-Fi) installed and working without issues in the same computer.

I need the digital output of the X-Fi for my Dolby Digital decoding speakers and
I need the microphone input of the Realtek adapter. I also find the front panel
inputs of the Realtek handy for quick temporary use.

Having BOTH audio adapters installed and active has caused no problems at all
for me.

I haven't had problems with that either as you can choose which you want to
use from the sound dropdown. However, the problem here is the person
doesn't seem to get the drivers properly loaded for the Realtek which they
don't want to use, so turning it off in the BIOS is the most effective way.

Thanks for reporting this. I've never had two sound devices, so I don't know
what the ramifications are of having them both engaged, or how that all
works out in Control Panel > Sound > Playback, etc. Now I know a little
more. I guess I'm puzzled as to how the OP became inspired to update the
driver in the first place, thinking it must have been showing in Device
Manager apparently, and was never disabled via BIOS; that is, out of sight,
out of mind.

The question then is, was it disabled in Device Manager when the the Realtek
device installation occurred? (Whereupon it was un-disabled, since the
installer removed the Realtek driver, which then Windows "restored" with its
generic one)? If this is the case, it wouldn't hurt to run the Realtek
installer one more time (sigh, due to the peculiarities of the Realtek
installer), at least to restore the Realtek driver, and thereby remove the
Exclamation Point in Device Manager. And then the OP could choose to
disable it, if that fits the requirements of PAUL&GINA's audio setup. (Only
they know what's plugged in where!)

It's just a quick right click on the Speaker Icon in the Notification Area,
selecting Playback Devices, selecting the Realtek Digital Output, pressing the
Set Default button, and I can switch to listening to internet radio (no
commercials) on my living room 7.1 audio setup.

Who knows what is up with the OP. He seemed frightened of going into the
BIOS -- in fact he didn't even know what the BIOS was.

Hi cal
Sorry i replying so late to your last note
I did'nt know what the bios was because i am not into computers that much i
know a bit to get me about, not one of these people
to dabble inside computers, anyway i found the bios lol
I could'nt find what i had to do to stop windows searching for the hardware
when i start up
In a answer to one of the question that was asked on this subject the device
is in folder other devices

I think the best and easiest thing for you to do is to just install the Realtek
audio drivers. You CAN have BOTH the Realtek AND the Creative audio devices
installed and working at the same time. I have both installed here with no
problems. In fact, it would give you more inputs and outputs (although you can
only have one default output and one default input selected at any one time).
You can use Control Panel (Classic view) > Sound > Playback tab and Recording
tab to switch the default outputs and inputs as you need.

Download the current Realtek HD Audio driver (ver. 1.75) from here:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=3&GetDown=false#High Definition Audio Codecs

Note: To be sure the drivers install correctly, install once, REBOOT, install
again, and REBOOT again.

Just curious, do you even know what drivers she needs. HD or AC97 32 or 64
bit

John that was my original mistake
I downloaded the drivers a message came up that the old drivers would be
replaced ,once the new drivers were in i could go to set up ex and install
the drivers, but i havent got any realtec audio stuff on my machine, the only
realtec i got is realtec ethnet connection,
so i wanted to unistall the the drivers from my machine because every time
my machine crashes(do not even start me on that grrrr)a message come up that
windows is trying to install the hardware but cant because the drivers are
not on there if they are i cant find them
sorry if i ahve bored any body on here with this silly problem
paul

What onboard sound codec do you have, if not Realtek. Virtually all MOBO's
have built in sound and if you are being prompted for drivers for a device,
what hardware does it try to install.

Hi john it tryes to install the reatec hd audio drives
I have the creative drivers, before you ask creative do not have the
correct vista drivers for soundblaster audigy serious:)
I had the drivers when i was on xp
It is one of the comaptibility issues i think
paul

I asked what codec you have on the motherboard, not what codec it tries to
install. Odds are if it is trying to install a Realtek codec that you have
a Realtek codec on your MOBO and really need to go into your BIOS and turn
it off.
I have the creative Audigy 2zs and there have been drivers since months
before RTM (except for about 2 days when the beta expired and they hadn't
released a replacement)

From PAUL&GINA:
Good morning dean sorry for the late reply i have to sleep yow know below
is the info you asked for cheers
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0880&SUBSYS_08800000&REV_0905
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0880&SUBSYS_08800000

In other words, 0x10EC is the vendor id, which is the id for Realtek
Semiconductor.

And 0x0880 is the device id, which is the id for REALTEK ALC880.

HDAUDIO is High Definition Audio.

From the HDAHP880.inf file (extracted from the package noted at the end of
this post), it supports hardware with the id
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0880&SUBSYS_08800000:

The download package is Vista Driver(32/64 bits) version R1.75 (2007/8/31),

What is the make and model name|number of your computer? Perhaps one could
find the specifications for your computer model.

When I do a search on the Creative site from the link I gave you previously
(using the Select Your Product wizard at
http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/), I am able to find a Vista driver
for Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series, for example:

http://us.creative.com/support/down...&driverlang=1033&OS=26&drivertype=0&x=26&y=15
I downloaded the drivers a message came up that the old drivers would be
replaced ,once the new drivers were in I could go to set up ex and install
the drivers, but i havent got any realtec audio stuff on my machine, the
only
realtec i got is realtec ethnet connection,
so i wanted to unistall the the drivers from my machine because every time
my machine crashes(do not even start me on that grrrr)a message come up
that
windows is trying to install the hardware but cant because the drivers are
not on there if they are i cant find them

Windows can't find the driver's files, because the Realtek installer removed
the old ones, in anticipation that you would run Setup.exe on more time, so
that it can install the new ones...

In other words, Windows recognizes that a device with the hardware id, that
you posted previously, is present, but it needs the Realtek-specific files
to complete the driver...

Like I said, try posting you computer's make and model name|number, and that
may help determine what hardware came with your computer.
