Need Audio Driver

G

Grumpy

I am fixing an older Dell desktop (Dimension 2400), and need a few
drivers for it. I have found all except the audio driver R105155.EXE.
Every try I make to download same via Google gives me everything but
the driver. A big mess.

All I want is that dang driver for this machine. That's all. Dell
did not supply it for the Service Tag involved. Dell says the
R105155.exe driver is not available.

Can anyone point me to a download site to get it?
Thanks

Note: You never mention WHICH operating system you are using on the
computer. When looking at Dell's audio drivers, I selected Windows XP
since it was the only OS listed as supported for those models.

I'll answer a few of your questions. Sorry I omitted that I was
using XP SP3 - I was in a XP group so I got careless.
You sure you are working on a Dimension 2400? There are 3 audio drivers
listed by Dell and none of them are the R105155 you mentioned. For the
Analog Devices ADI 198x integrated audio controller, they list the
R94481 driver file.

I agree. And the other drivers all worked on this machine. The video
and the Ethernet.
Their Dimension 1100/B110 lists the R105155 download file. It also says
it is for the integrated Analog Devices ADI 198x audio chip. I don't
know why they would have a different audio driver file for the 1100
versus the 2400 since they list the same audio controller in both
models; however, the 198x means a family of models where x is variable.

I don't know either. If I could just download the R105155.exe driver
I would try it - it's just that Google blasts me with ads every time
I try to download the thing.

Did you get some bastardized hardware configuration where a Dimension
1100 was scavanged to repair a 2400 and that's why you're trying to use
an audio driver for the 1100 in the 2400?

From search results, it looks like "ADI 198x" is associated to the
SoundMax audio card. Searching at download.com on "analog devices adi
198x" turned up:

http://download.cnet.com/Audio-Anal...io-Driver-Version-A01/3000-2110_4-168812.html
http://download.cnet.com/SoundMAX-Integrated-Digital-HD-Audio/3000-2110_4-174215.html

I'll see if these work. Can u point me to a download site for the
R105155.exe driver anyway?

Thanks

The BIOS and the desktop case both say Dimension 2400. This has a P4
2.66GHz CPU Service Tag JL88H41.

Neither did anything for me. The second gave me a driver which would
not install. Thanks anyway Grumpy

From some posts in the Dell forums, the R105155 was giving users a lots
of problems. For awhile, Dell pointed to a missing page so users got
error messages about "page not found". Then they provided a page with
the pointer but the file wasn't there. I didn't follow through the
discussions to see if those users complaining about trying to get this
file could actually get it. I do recall one poster mentioning that it
wouldn't install (but don't remember the error the poster noted).

I did a Google on R105155 and saw the Dimension 1100 model mentioned.
So I went to Dell's support site and search on that model and the
R105155 was listed as one of its audio drivers. So go to Dell and look
at the drivers available for the 1100 model.

Missing pages? Gee this driver is an audio driver. How would 'pages'
be involved?

But how did you ever come up with needing the R105155 since it is not
listed as an audio driver for the 2400 model?

By the way, when I search at Dell using the JL88H41 tag, it shows a web
page with only 3 categories (5 files) of which none are audio drivers.
I had to click on the "All files" tab to see 10 categories with 71
files and which did have 3 files under the audio category.

Have you opened the box to look inside to see if the audio controller
isn't disabled using a jumper and some other audio card was inserted in
a slot? Is the audio enabled in the BIOS? Does the audio controller
show up in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc)?

Thought you'd never ask :<)

Actually I used Driveragent to do a scan on the 2400 - it revealed
said driver needed. I couldn't download it because I have exhausted
all the machines I can use (10) Driveragent for (on past machines, now
long gone).

I downloaded and installed the R105155.exe audio driver for the Dell

Thanks a meg.
