New Pioneer DVR-108 DVDRW Drive not Accessible by WinXP

Steve Remington

Hello To the Group,

Today I purchased a Pioneer DVR-108 DRVRW drive. I have attached it and
rebooted Win XP Pro SP1 only to find that it is not accessible as drive in
My Computer.

Now for the details:

Motherboard: ASUS A7V-333

Primary Master: Maxtor 80GB HDD
Primary Slave: Pioneer DVR-108 DVD-RW <--- NEW DRIVE
Secondary Master: Pioneer DCR-111 DVD/CDRW
Secondary Slave: Nothing
RAID Controller: 2 x 80GB Maxtor IDE HDDs in RAID 0

All devices are recognised correctly BIOS drive setup
All drive are classified as installed and working correctly in Device
Manager
DVD/CDRW works correctly
Have tried uninstall devices in device manager and then reboot.
Have checked all slave and master jumpers on all devices
Have tried various combinations on primary / secondary and master / slave
(with jumpers changed accordingly)

And now for the kicker...I tried the DVR-108 on my Dual PII-333 server
running Win2k Server SP4 and the device was recognised (NB: all other
devices on the Win2k Server are SCSI devices) In did not try a disk in it
but it was accessible in My Computer.

I have exhausted all of my troubleshooting thoughts on this one and would
appreciate the thought from the collective wisdom of the group.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.

Did you assign it a Drive Letter? Right click on My Computer, select
Manage. On the following screen, click on Disk Management. Does it show up
on the right hand side of the screen? Can you assign it a drive letter
here?

Cari,

To paraphrase Maxwell Smart Agent 86..."The old not assigning a drive letter
to a new drive trick. That's the second time I fell for that this week" :)

Problem solved thanks for your help.

I will remember that bit of information for next time.
