New OS, need to get rid of particans

I bought a used computer, it had the old users OS on it, I
would like to put my own on and get rid of the particans
that was made on it. Could some one tell me how?? Please.

Partitions? Simply boot from the Windows XP-CD. You will get the
opportunity to change the disk layout during Setup if you do not
choose an upgrade installation.
