We recently upgrade our server to Exchage 2003 and switched to native mode.
Exchange is running SP1.

Some of our end users (about 1%) are experiencing a weird problem. All end
users running Outlook 2000 with SP1. The problem our users are having is that
new messages are not showing in their inbox automatically.

A user has the outlook client open, user 2 sends user 1 a message but user
1's outlook inbox does not show a new message. user 1 clicks send/recieve,
nothing happens. User 1 then clicks on an old message in the inbox, and all
new messages suddenly show up. User can read new messages, but no new unread
messages show up until user clicks on an old message again. this occurs for
emails recieved from both internal and external recipients.

Have not yet been able to determine why. Uninstalled/reinstalled office, no
change.

Any thoughts?

Why is this only affecting a few clients? Are there modifications we can make
to our firewall to allow this traffic to hit the clients?

Will installing Outlook 2003 resolve the issue?

upgrading outlook may help, but its worth it for other reasons.

Try the hotfix - that is supposed to fix it.

I have had several end users complain about this over the past few months and
in each case it ended up being that they inadvertantly set themselves to sork
'offline'. Send/recieve still works, but it is not automatic until they
select online again.

I know it sounds a little basic, but i have seen it enough times that i
thought it was worth mentioning.
