New messages do not immeadiatly appear in OL2000 inbox

My new messages do not pop into the inbox until I click onto another message
already in the inbox. There is no notification that a new message has arrived
and no indication of unread messages in the inbox. The only way to check for
new messages is to highlight an already existing message in the inbox which
makes the new messages pop into the inbox.
Using Outlook 2K. I've recreated the profile and even made a profile for a
different user on this machine and recreated the problem.

Help!!!

Assuming you are working with an Exchange mailbox, then the problem you
describe is where the UDP notification event from Exchange to client
workstation is being blocked/dropped. For example, this is a known issue
when Outlook 2000 is installed on Windows XP and the windows firewall is
being used on the client workstation. If the site wishes to continue using
the Windows Firewall, then an exception needs to be set for outlook.exe to
open a listening port.
