New Install

Roget

I'm trying to install XP Pro onto an AMD 1.3Ghz w the
following config:
MSI W6340MS motherboard (4.7 bio), 256MB RAM, 20GB
harddrive (unpartitioned)
The installation hangs after the initial "Setup is
loading files" stage and the message of "Setup is
starting Windows". At first I thought it was something
wrong with the CD, so I tried a Windows 2000 Pro CD and
it did the same thing. Any suggestion as to which
hardware component could the main cause?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can and that's what I am doing at this moment
but I get an error as described in my posting below.

My upgrade XP pro package states you can upgrade WIN98
to XP.

Roget,

I just experienced the same problem. My problem was
posted on 9/2 at 12:56 PM. My system was also hanging at
the same spot while trying to upgrade from 2000 to XP.

Go Into your Bios and change your boot device order.
Make sure the system is set to boot from your CDROM
before your HDD. This step seemed redundant, since I
was "Pressing Any Key To Boot From CDROM" during the boot
process, but it worked. I had to "Press Any Key To Boot
From CDROM" again, even after the BIOS was set, but this
time it loaded a Windows Install/Repair Menu on that blue
screen.

I was able to select a new XP install, and Delete the
current partition. The system formatted the
unpartitioned space, I selected the NTFS file system and
XP loaded successfully.

I am now having driver problems with my modem and sound.
If you familiar in this area, please let me know.

Thanks,

Doug
