Howdy all
I just installed a fresh copy of win xp sp2 on my new athlon 64 system with
a sata hard drive and earthlink 3mbps DSL. I am using a Linksys router.
My previous system, web pages would just show up when i clicked a link or
type an address.
With my new setup I get a 10-15 second delay before a page shows up,if it
shows up.
Everything is just so damn slow i cant stand it. I dont have any of the
power saving features on,I have no programs running in the background. I
have a gig of ram and am using the network card built into my motherboard.
Any clue what I could try?

I removed the linksys router from the system and am using pppoe that is
built into windows and I am still having the same problem. I am even having
unreliability trying to just read this newsgroup.

Ok,I managed to find a speed test that wasnt bogged down and it rated me at
2139 kbps so i am not doing bad on speed. My problem is jsut that web pages
take my browser forever to load. Sometimes they go quickly, sometimes they
either error out or take 20 seconds to load.

At times,it is almost like my connection goes to sleep or something, but all
my power saver settings are off including the one to turn of the NIC.Anyone
have any idea what this could be? It was working fine 2-3 weeks ago when i
installed win xp on the system and has hit rock bottom today. I know I have
no viruses or spyware too.

I just ran a dsl tweaking program as well as the one at dsl-reports.com and
it said the mtu is fine at 1490.
Any other ideas?
I supposed the internet could just be slow tonight, but i am getting htis
trouble on all websites i visit,at various places around the world.

START > RUN > msconfig
System Configuration Utility | Services tab -
Check "Hide all Microsoft Services" box -
In the list of non Microsoft Services,
is there anything suspicious looking?
"Win Tools for IE" maybe?

Well,I just ended up doing a backup and reformat of the drive and new
install and everything is working great.
Only thing I can think of is that before this happened,i installed and then
uninstalled norton utilities which started up a load of programs running in
memory. Other than that,I have no idea what happened.

It has been my experience that Norton is more trouble than it is worth.
That's just my opinion...
I use and like Zone Alarm Security Suite:

Again, just my opinion...

Yeah,I installed norton system works only and it had like 10 processes
running all of a sudden.
I dont like bloat in my system, I want what I need to run and that's it.
I liked windoctor and speed disk, but I wont be putting it back on here,I
really think
that is what screwed it up.
