New install of XP pro over XP home?

Can I install an OEM version of XP Professional on my
computer if I am currently running XP Home or do I need
to by an upgrade?

OEM versions will not upgrade, they are for clean installations only
(loosing all data in the process). If you want to retain your data buy
retail XP Pro Upgrade. In my opinion the retail version is worth the extra
cost.

If you use an OEM version, it will *only* do a clean install, after
formatting the disk, and requiring reinstallation of all software. And
it does not save *that* much on a retail upgrade (which could also later
be moved to a successor machine, as an OEM one may not)
