New Hardware Wizard apperig constantly

One of the XP PRO images at my workplace is doing something different than
all the others. When a new hardware item for which drivers exist, such as a
USB flash drive, or USB floopy is added, the "Add new Hardware" wizard
appears. All the other images install the hardware automatically without the
wizard. In fact as far as I have researched the wizard should not appear
unless drivers for the item were not found. Since this is an image from which
other machines will be built I would lke to correct this. Thanks.

You are probably mistaken in your belief that 'drivers exist' in that image.
Perhaps a corrupt copy of the files, or the INF they need.

The fact is that if I click through the wizard Winows will install the
drivers, and from then on they function correctly. If however I unlug the
device from the port to which I just installed it and then plug into another
USB port I have to go through the same process all over again. Unfortunatlety
this image has been used to deploy several laptops. I have since rebuilt the
image and this behaviour no longer occurs, but I still need to correct it on
the laptops I have deployed so if you have any other suggestions I welcome
them. Thanks
