How to suppress "Welcome to the found New Hardware Wizard"?

S

Sebastian Kaist

Whenever I turn on my Laserprinter (connected through USB) a dialog popsup
with the "Welcome to the found New Hardware Wizard".

This is somehow odd because I already succesfully installed the drivers for the Laserprinter
and it works fine.

So how do I tell WinXP to popup this dialog (only) for this laserprinter in the future?

Is there an option/Registry value "driver already installed for each device?

Are you disconnecting it and reconnecting it later?

You could try this: Remove the printer, reboot, let the new hardware wizard
run and have the driver available to install when the wizard asks for it.

This is a feature of the Plug and Play system in Windows. This occurs
because Windows XP was started when the printer was not turned on.
When you turned it on, the USB port "sees" the printer and sends the
"new device detected" signal to XP. If the drivers were correct
developed for XP's USB Plug and Play access, then this message should
not be coming out. However, it seems this is not your case. I would
check with the printer's manufacturer for revised drivers or I would
leave the printer powered on constantly but set up it's power saving
feature.

Have you checked the printer manufacturer's web site for updated drivers? As
smlunatick said, if the drivers are correctly written, you shouldn't have a
problem. I have an older HP hooked through USB that I leave turned off until
I need it, and when I turn it on, I don't get the new hardware wizard. A
newer driver solved it for me.

Why should the driver CD contain the latest latest driver?

I suspect that it is plugged into the same socket.
This seems to be a problem lately with HP printers. I have 8 customers, with different HP printer
models, with this problem.
We have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and several suggested registry changes. No luck on any
of them. No response from HP on email of three of the machines. Seems to occur when the printer is
first powered on, either by turning the computer on (printer attached and on) or by turning the
printer on after the computer is running.
