You can use Norton Ghost to 'ghost' or clone the old hd to
the new hd.

Hello
yes you can just install the new harddrive and pop in the first restore disk
and it will format and partition the harddrive to just like new status

You can give it a try, but I doubt that it will work on an HP.
Be sure to back up all of your personal data before you
do anything.

AS long as the HP restore disk is seen by an HP BIOS, the
new disk (C: and any HP hidden partitions) will be restored.

If you use FDISK or another tool to partition the disk
before you run the HP restore CD you can create multiple
partitions and the restore disk will still only copy to C:.

At least that is how it works on our HP6465 when I added a
new hard drive as master.
