New DVD/RW is not recognized by Explorer "My Computer"

Hallo guys

I just replaced my old CD-Burner with new DVD burner, Lite-On DVD/RW
SOHW-1693S.
But when i start Windows, the new driver doesnt show in My Computer.

On every start/restart, Found New Hardware Wizard shows up for the
DVD/RW and looks for driver, but cant find any. And than the DVD/RW
shows up in Device Manager, under Other Devices and with a yellow
exlamantion point.

Jumpers are set on Cable Select, like the old driver was set (its on
master position).
I checked BIOS, it shows up there, and its set on auto detection.
Also DVD/RW works, i mean i can opet it and lights go on.

Also i tried HPs "PC-doctor for Windows-XP". with it i did a DVD-Rom
Test with a DVD Movie in my new DVD/RW drive. And it completed the test
succesfuly, the DVD was spining inside. So PC-Doctor software
communicated with DVD/RW.

So only problem is DVD/RW doesnt show up in "My Computer".

I didnt do much in registers. Only I was inside HKEYS_LOCAL_MACHINE /
SYSTEM / MountedDevices , and delated all REG_BINARY files, so after
restart Windows could assigne new ones, but that didnt fix anything.

Dont know what else to try, would be thakfull for any help.

Hello,

I recently had the same problem with two CD/DVD drives and a hard disk (XP
Pro SP2).

This is how I got rid of the problem:

- in the hardware wizard select the option to manually choose the driver
- manually select the location of the driver and set it to the path of
Windows INF files (on my system C:\Windows\INF)
- continue and let Windows detect and install the default driver

This worked on my system.

It seems as if Windows had forgotten the path to his own drivers ;-)
