Building a new PC, using
Asus P5LD2 Deluxe
Pentium D945 & Freezer 7 Pro
Mushkin EM2 PC2-5300 1GB 2x512 DDR2-667 (5x5x5x15)
EVGA E-Geforce 7600 Gts
2x sata Seagates - Raid 0
Aopen FM56-PLX internal modem
MS Wireless Optical Desktop 3.0 (keyboard & mouse)
Samsung 931bf flat panel
XP MCE
Antec SLK1650B with 350w
Samsung DVD+RW & Mitsumi 7in1
No overclocking - bog standard. Temperatures are fine

Have two problems, freezes & blue screens.

1. Freezes.
Have set up 3 users. This seems to only happen on user B, the first
one I set up.
Do a fresh boot - start up user B - let it load stuff - the last thing
to load?, about 2 minutes in, this seems to be the bad guy. Move
cursor to anything - it highlights but is frozen.
frozen = the keyboard & mouse seem to disconnect. The mouse/cursor
still moves, but nothing will focus/highlight or is clickable. Same
thing with the keyboard. Control/Alt/Delete causes the mouse to
hourglass for a few seconds, then nothing.
Some macro keys, like my documents, also cause the hourglass.
Is there any way to monitor what's loading or to know the sequence? Or
do you go to msconfig and trial & error?

2. Blue Screens
Seems to happen randomly. Blue screens & I've set it up to do a full
dump. )During memory last memory dump, happened while setting up media
centre, the speakers hummed. )
Reboot & send the crash dump to MS. Had about 15 in 3 days. On-line
Crash Analysis says caused by unknown device driver - keep sending
reports!
But did have one unique one where MS told me it was the video card and
to update driver and/or disable hardware acceleration. Updated driver
& haven't seen this one again.

Ran memtest-86 c3.2 (for 6 hours). Ran without errors. Can it handle
my config? Is double data rate an issue?
Tried a USB robotics modem - same thing
Updated XP
Updated EVGA driver
BIOS is 603. There is a beta 705.
Tempted to try the "disable hardware acceleration.
Any help appreciated.

all of this happens under user B?
it would then point me to a piece of software or hardware driver that is
unique to user B.

No, freezes are unique to B, so far
And i can get it to freeze. Just put in an audio cd & try & set up
Media Centre. It blue screens every time, though not at the same
place.

So this would point to a sound driver problem. Signed driver? windows didn't
balk at it? Is the GEF a video capture card also?
Is the media center your refering to the -creative- 'media center'? or
Windows MC? Windows MC has many compatability issues. Is your hardware on
the list of compat. devices?

Somebody posted recently on Mushkin giving him a fit
the same way you are seeing. He finally called them,
and they verified some kind of incompatibility, and sent
him the right ram. Weird that it is user specific. I've
never seen that on anything except reduced users
not being able to access temp files that got stored
in admin restricted folders. AutoCAD is good for
that. Are all your users admins?
