new computer crashes for no reason... help please!

I recently just got this computer, near the beginning of January.

Specs are:
Intel Core 2 Duo
ASUS P5KSE Motherboard
2GB RAM
eVGA 8500gt 256mb video card
Windows XP Professional with SP2

if more needed then just notify me.

The problem is that whenever I download using BT, or install/download bigger
files
my computer starts freezing 20mins-1hour later.
But it doesn't permanently freeze.
It freezes for about 5 seconds, and then unfreezes, and then freezes for 5
seconds again, and unfreezes and it keeps doing that.
So I don't have a choice except to restart my computer in order it to run
properly again.
When it starts freezing, my wireless internet connection disconnects and my
music plays the same tone for 5 seconds also then goes back to normal.

I took this to the shop and they said there was no problem with my
computer... so could anyone help me fix this?

Except i think this started happening after I tried installing a Windows
Vista skin, I'm not sure, but I think it could be a reason? So I was also
wondering how to reinstall the original windows xp files...

Was the computer bought new with a warranty?

Are you leaving your computer on 24/7?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and
click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents
Folder and post a copy. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it
is more informative.

What are your installed anti-virus and anti-spyware programmes?

Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp to
Empty your Recycle Bin and Remove Temporary Internet Files. Also
select Start, All Programs, accessories, System Tools, Disk CleanUp,
More Options, System Restore and remove all but the latest System
Restore point. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.

1. click on start-->run-->msconfig and press enter
2. Select startup tab on the top right and then click on disable all on the
bottom click on apply and restart the computer. when ur computer restarts
click on check box message which will come up and click ok.

okay i tried that too, and when i restart it, it says i have to use the
administration account, which i did use, and then all the things that have to
do with microsoft are auto ticked, and yes the problem still persists.
i also tried logging through the administrator account through safe mode and
it still didnt work. =/

When you say "i use firealarm" I am confused! Are you referring to Zone
Alarm, Firefox or something else. Zone Alarm can create problems when
using System Restore.
http://bertk.mvps.org/html/srfail.html

itunes.exe
http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/w32oscabotl.html

Added by the OSCABOT-L WORM! Note - this file will be placed in the
WindowsSystem32 or WinntSystem32 folder, and should not be confused with
the (legitimate) Apple iTunes process, always located in the Program
FilesiTunes folder
Source: http://www.winstartups.com/

You need to check the version of itunes.exe, the file size and where it
is located on your system. The type of problem you have is symptomatic
of spyware and could be malware at work. Were you running iTunes when
you looked in Task Manager? My copy of itunes.exe is not a running
process so it does not have to automatically load when you boot. All I
see is is iTuneshelper.exe!

What precise version of Zone Alarm is installed?

What precise version of Firefox is installed?

What are your anti-virus and anti-spyware arrangements?
