New Audigy2 install woes

Sam

I've had a rough time trying to install a new Audigy2 in my Asus A7N8X
system. This machine has been running fine since last December, when I
first built it, using an AMD X2400+, an ATI Radeon 9500pro and 1,024mb RAM.
I have Windows XP-pro(sp1). I have the latest bios installed.

I disabled the onboard sound in BIOS first. After re-booting I installed
the drivers from the CD (following the instruction for the card), but the
process hung. After waiting 10-15 minutes I rebooted the machine. From that
point on I have been unable to either uninstall or re-install the software.
Every time I get an error message that says: "Unhandled Exception / Error
number 0x80040201 / An event was unable to invoke any of the subscribers"

Any clue as to what's going on?

Thanks.

no clue but go to www.creative.com and download the
latest driver for your audigy2 and use those drivers.

only install the drivers. the other software is
unnecessary.

I'd done that, but that wasn't any help.

I had similar problems when I changed from SBlive 5.1 to SBaudigy.
I used drivercleaner from driver heaven. First I removed the card from
the system. Then followed the instructions to remove all Creative drivers,
references etc. I then reinserted the Audigy and made sure that the CD
was in the drive before booting into windows. Windows will then search
for the drivers and find them on the CD. Driver conflicts are a real PITA.

Funny, but the instructions say to say "cancel" when Windows asks to
install new hardware. Then they tell you to use the CD to install the
software. <sigh> I wish they knew what they were talking about.

Earlier today I'd used Driver Cleaner (2.6) and it cleaned out a bunch of
junk. You have to use their cab cleaner too, otherwise there's a file that
keeps coming back, even when you've taken it out of
c:\windows\systemn32\dllcache. What a PITA.

Since I'm going out of town tomorrow, I'll wait until I get back, before
trying it again.
