Is it possible to refresh or release unused memory and resources without
restarting the computer?
We have several computers running process applications that run all the time
and the customer don't want to restart the computers on a regular basis.
The problem is that when a computer has been running for a few weeks without
a restart, strange things start to happen. I have noticed several different
crashes, but them all seams to relate to low availability of necessary
resources. This happens usually when no one is operating the computer.
(The computers are mainly running without supervision).
Typical crashes include "Out of memory", "Error binding socket",
"Insufficient resources", "'Cannot create another system semaphore" and
random graphical screen errors.
We have updated windows and applications to fix most memory leaks and bugs.
Next step will be upgrading the RAM on the machines.
Is there anything else we can do?
Is there a magical program out there that can release unused resources and
memory?
System information:
Dell OptiPlex GX 280 computers running Windows XP with SP2.
512 MB RAM, integrated graphics and network card.
MS Office 2003 Basic. PC-cillin OfficeScan anti-virus. iFix process
software.
The computers communicate with each other over TCP/IP in a domain.
Kind regards,
