Utility to optimize RAM, virtual memory and monitor applications use of resources?

S

Sanjay Punjab

I have a laptop with a 1.3 Intel M processor with 512mb.
I have many applications running in my task bar and often my computer
simply crawls. Is there an application that can help me optimize RAM
usage, paging and virtual memory, minimize hard drive accesses, and
allow me see which applications are hogging resources in the
background?
Thanks

"Is there an application that can help me optimize RAM usage, paging and

Such applications are worthless. Really.

"...and allow me see which applications are hogging resources in the
background?"

Task Manager. (CTRL+ALT+DEL)

Needless cross-posting is frowned upon.

Yes. Task Manager. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL and it will pop up.

Actually, I know your problem. The problem is that M
Processors SUCK. In my opinion, but the reason for this
is that it only runs at half the speed of the processor
when it feels it doesn't need to work hard. I think it is
a marketing ploy by intel for consumers to use a slow
processor, that will slowly increase speed over the
years, so they can get more bang for there buck acrossed
a certain timeline. I'm guessing they already have 2.8 M
processors out but just want to get as much money as they
can. Just my opinion, don't kill me.

1. Aluria Software - Dr Speed or
2. Iolo Software - System Mechanic
Each has its own merits but System Mechanic is more comprehensive.

ok sanjay i realy feel with you and i've seen all the replay for youe problem
and no one have solve it for you, here what you have to do so no program will
load when you start your pc:
click on start>>run>> then type in msconfig>>>click ok.
they the system coonfiguration utility will load up.
if you want to eleminate all the programs that run when windows start up and
you dont really need them all you have to do is click on (SELECTIVE STARTUP)
and then uncheck the load startyo ITEMS and click on ok then your winodws
will ask you to restart, and after that you will see a message saying you
have you pc on selective start up check on dont show me this message again
and enjoy the speen of your RAMSSSS.
another thing you can do if you know what you are doing, and because i dont
know what kind of programs are loading when you start you pc i cant tell you
what to uncheck, but i can tell you if you know what you will do and which
programs you want to shutdown on the start of windows, here it is:
click on start >>>>run>>>type in msconfig>>then click ok
the system congif will load then go to startup tap and see which programs
you want to load when your pc start and which not;you can uncheck the program
that you want to turn off on the loading of your pc. then you can click ok
and the same thing it will tell you windows need to restart , go ahead and
restart then the same message will apper and it will tell you, you are on the
selective or diagnostic startup and check dont show me this message again and
enjoy your 500 RAMS AND MORE.
PS: if you dont know what you are doing just select the first option and
you will be ok.
ta ta for now

One of the best ways to improve performance is to do the following.. go to
Control Panel - System - Advanced tab - Performance settings.. adjust for
best performance..

Yes, but they're just useless.

If you want a professional process manager, sysinternals' "Process Explorer" is
the best choice as I know.

This link may help you: http://directory.google.com/Top/Com...ystems/Microsoft_Windows/Windows_XP/Tweaking/

There are a few tips to speed up your system:

1.Don't run any .NET or Java program.

2.Shut down useless services.

3.If you use IE and have ClearType enabled, search for my article "Speed up IE!"
in alt.os.windows-xp

4.A good defrag app may also help, try "O&O Defrag"
