xp laptops with service pack 1 take a long time logging onto a 2000 domain controller. error message 1054 system log. media sensing switched to half-duplex and dns is working as 2000 pro machines and xp desktops are ok. any bright ideas out there
 
Add the XP laptops to the Hosts file of the Windows 2000 Domain controller. The path to the hosts file on my Windows 2000 work station, since I am not at work on my domain contorller, is I:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc. I had this problem several months ago and this resolved it. Anyway, just find the etc folder and use the sample entries in the Hosts file to configure it. Just back up the hosts file first in case it does not work for you.
