Networking XP and Win2k question

Ted Wilson

We have win xp with 2 users. We would like to logon to
the LAN server and win XP simultaneously, just like we
used to do Win98 and Win2K network.

WinXp is on the same workgroup as the server but it
doesn't happen to logon. I also have to keep the Internet
Firwall on WIN XP and when I do so I cannot access other
services like printer which is attached to the server.
Can someone please tell me how to configure WinXP and
WIN2K server, in a way that the user logs on in the XP
and WIN2K server at the same time?

thanks

Why do you have to keep the XP firewall enabled on the lan? That can interfere with
lan access. You should be using a perimeter firewall to protect the lan and then you
can disable the XP built in firewall or use a personal firewall that can have rules
to consider the lan subnet be a trusted network and not subject to firewall rules.

To access the W2K computer when you logon to the XP computer, use lusrmgr.msc on the
W2K computer and add a user account that uses the same logon name and password that
the user logs onto the XP computer. You also could enable the guest account on the
W2K computer which will allow anyone to access shares that allow the everyone group
in share and ntfs permissions. --- Steve
