networking problem

Hi,
Ever since a recent reinstall of XP I have had problems when connecting to
two different routers - one wirelessly and one wired.

I have a Belkin wireless modem router for broadband to which I connect
wirelessly most of the time. I also have a Netgear print server router which
I use for printing - the location of printer and phone point are some
distance apart. I usually connect to the Netgear print server with cable.

The problem occurs when connecting a cable to the Netgear print server when
I already have a wireless connection established to the Belkin. Any internet
activity after that seems to try to go through the wired connection rather
than the wireless. I can sort this by running the diagnostic tool in IE7 but
would rather not have to do this every time.

My question is, is there a way of making sure that only traffic destined for
the print server goes through the wired connection? Or to put it another
way, how can I make XP look to the wireless connection for internet traffic
before trying the wired?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

RAH.

Control Panel-> Network Connections -> double-click wired connection
Select TCP/IP in window -> Properties -> Advanced
In the "Default Gateway" box, delete any gateway you see there.

Alternatively, uncheck the "Automatic Metric" box and assign a large
metric (100). Normally, wired connections are given lower metrics than
wireless connections causing wired connections to be prefered.

If you get your wired IP address via DHCP, this will probably have to
be done each time you connect.
