networking a printer

D

D.H. Cesare

I have a computer hard-wired to a D-link 655 router and another computer
which will be connected wirelessly.
I have set the printer to "sharing" on the hardwired machine but don't know
what steps to take to get the
wireless machine to be able to print.
Can someone give me step by step instructions?
Thanx

WinXP Home on the hardwired machine and XP Pro on the wireless.
Printer is a Canon.

Once the software is installed to a pc or a administrative user, install
microsoft
print migrator, create a shortcut, move the shortcut to other users or pc.Along
with the other areas to install, this does create stability.

Did you want to tell us where & how the printer will be connected to
your arrangement, or are you asking for suggestions?

the first step is to turn off your antivirals
and firewalls on both machines.

this will ensure that there is nothing
impeding your connectivity while trying to
figure out the task at hand.

if both the laptop and the pc have the same
work group assigned to them, then both
machines should be able to see each other

and what has been "shared" should be
indicated in the explorer.

-------------------------

if not, then try this next step:

if the printer is hard wired to the pc,

then try to network the laptop to the
pc directly,

by simply connecting your laptop to the
pc with a "cross over" cable.

once you do this, the pc will share the
printer to the laptop, if they are on the
same "work group"

I thought I was confused before. I haven't the faintest Idea what you just said.
Can you make it simple and in English?
Thank you

The printer is connected up to the "A" machine now. I am hooking up
another machine wirelessly and I want to be able to print from the new machine.

The second machine is a PC and will be connected wirelessly
through the router. The Printer is connected to the "A" machine.
I want to be able to print from the new "B" wireless PC.

You must install the printer software on the wireless machine. The printer
must be shared on the hardwired maching.
After doing this, you need to consult the printer manual.
For example, I had to get the instructions for my Epson Photo 1280 from
Epson. However, the installation disk for my Epson R1900 did everything.

I realize that.

but networking is complex for anyone who
has never experienced it before.

so, if possible exercise my suggestion
first.

if you can't create a simple network via
wire connection, then wireless will be
impossible.
