Question : is it possible to setup a network connection with a timer set to
automatically disconnect after a set period of time?

Specifically, I'm on dialup and I like to leave downloads running overnight,
but I want my phone line clear by morning time automatically if possible
...... any ideas?

Use a download manager. Most of them have the option to shut down the
computer when downloading is finished. Be careful about the download
manager you choose; many of them have spyware. Check here for
