Idle 10 mins and disconnect connection not working?

I have set the network connection setting under control panel, when it idles
more than 10 mins, then disconnect it automatically. I run a Excel's macro
at 4 PM, which require accessing internet for the first 30 mins at most, then
Excel will keep performing calculation for a list of workbooks without any
requirement to access internet any more. but when I come home at 6:30pm,
Excel is still running for the rest of workbook, but internet is still
connected, I don't have any idea why the network setting does not disconnect
the internet after 10 min idle.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

There are quite a few reasons. Most likely other processes are
checking, like AV software, Windows Update, etc.

Like I suggested in your other post, using a router to accomplish this
might work better, but you'll have to t-shoot to stop all other programs
from accessing the internet also.

I don't have any router, I am using boardband modem only, which directly
connect to my PC Lan slot.
Do you have any more suggestions?

Your ADSL Modem (or broadband modem) must have Access Control Panel to set
times when your devices can't connect to the internet. This can be handy,
for example, if you'd like to cut back on the amount of time your internet
is online or when you are out at work.

I have read replies you recieved so far, but, as for 'any suggestions',
then I may have one that will be of a huge benefit; "Dont post so
many details regarding your business, it may not seem much, but to a
hacker, its like kindergarten time. (He would have your internet addy in
a milli-second, and would already be hooked into minor gov services,
like, car-rego, rates, taxes, census's, local councils, local m.p's, in
the area you live in.. wouldnt take much to have your home/work addy,,
of course, only after he had rifled through your Excels files at work
and at home.)(and dont forget, you have already told the world what goes
on at 4pm.! in your world.)
