Hi, I've just sent in this 'wish' to microsoft, but really should have
asked here, so maybe someone may know if this is possible...

[XP XP1]: For advanced users, it would be good to have more flexibility
with the 'default internet connection'. Under
InternetOptions->Connections, I have enabled 'Always dial my default
connection', so programs can automatically connect to the internet. For
example SETI, my mail client or browser. In all these cases I want the
same ISP called; I also have a 'disconnect after 5mins idle time' setting.

However for SETI, I'd like the PC to disconnect immediately when SETI
completes its upload/download. If my mail client initialised the
connection then I'd like it to disconnect after 15 minutes idle time,
but if the browser initiated the connection then I'd like it to
disconnect after 5 minutes.
Therefore although there is one connection used, the time before
auto-disconnect could change depending on which application requested
the connection.

With Microsoft Outlook you can set it to disconnect as soon as the send /
receive is complete. With the IE, you can set the connection to disconnect
when a specific idle time is reached. So you can kinda do it as it stands
but the disconnection would be dependant on the application that initiates
the connection, in this instance SETI and not MS. Maybe you should query
SETI as well to see if this software can do it.

Franksta.

SETI - no option in the UI but I'll look up newsgroups for them, good idea.
I don't use outlook or IE, thankfully

Hmmm, I thought I'd replied to this...
Anyway, I'm not using either IE or outlook express
