I have XP on my desktop and Vista on my laptop. I bought a printer (not
wireless) and set it up through my desktop. I had someone come out and set my
laptop up to be able to remotely send print jobs to this printer. It worked
fine (slow though) for a couple months and now no longer works. Could a
power outage have caused the change? What can I do to make it so the laptop
can again send print jobs to this printer? Do I need to uninstall something?

Plenty of info on the Internet explaining how to do this:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/default.mspx

Since Vista is on the laptop I suggest you post to a Vista newsgroup, in
particular:
microsoft.public.windows.vista.networking_sharing. Here is a list of all
the Vista newsgroups:

microsoft.public.windows.vista.administration_accounts_password
microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management
microsoft.public.windows.vista.games
microsoft.public.windows.vista.general
microsoft.public.windows.vista.hardware_assessment

microsoft.public.windows.vista.installation_setup

I tried to get him back, he conveniently doesn't work there anymore. I was
able to hook in an ethernet cable and my laptop recognized a printer, but my
specific printer was not listed in the choices (HP C5100 series). So for now
we have picked another HP, an older version, and are able to print. Not sure
how much we had to dumb-down our printer though. Guess time will tell.
Thanks for everyone's help.
And for the record, I don't care for Vista. I think that the Piñata version
is funny and could be eerily accurate! :-)

This may or may not be similar to your problem. I had a printer connected
to a Windows 98 computer. I wanted to print to it from a Windows XP
computer. Windows XP did not like the printer driver installed on the
Windows 98 computer and so gave me all kinds of grief when I tried to print
to it. It was slow and didn't always work. I think perhaps I should have
research further to get a driver installed to the XP computer for the
printer, but XP wants to the driver installed on the host computer by
default. When I upgraded the host computer to XP, all the printing
problems disappeared. So, I'm wondering if you need to find a Vista driver
for your printer and install that to the Vista laptop and set it up as a
network printer.
