I have just set up my first network using 2 pc running xp home,I have
used a crossover cable and network is ok ,file and printer sharing
working. To get this far i had to manually configure ip adresses etc
bacause using auto the client pc could not obtain an ip address. My
modem is a terayon usb cable ,connected to ntl in the uk.There is no
internet gateway showing on either computer but the cable modem shows
connected and shared.I can browse ok from the host pc.

host ip is 192.168.0.1
client 192.168.0.24
I have used host ip address for default gateway on client.
I would appreciate any help.

I am no tech guru but I do distinctly remember an option for Internet
settings when running the Network Setup wizard on Windows XP...one of the
options was something along the lines of "This computer connects to the
Internet through a residential gateway or another computer"...did you have
that checked (radio button)? If so, mess around with some of the other
options and see if they work? As an amateur that would be my first step of
investigation :-)
