I have a sony vaio laptop with xp home, a dell 2100 with
xp home, a linksys 5 port hub, a westell dsl modem and a
hp printer with which to build a network. The computers
have nic cards. i have connected each of the computers to
a hub port. The uplink port on the hub is connected to
the dsl modem. the modem is connected to the phone line.
The printer is connected to a parallel port on the laptop
right now, but we have to swap it back and forth because
we cannot figure out how to make everything "talk". Both
computers access the internet fine.
I tried running the "wizard" but it does not seem to
work. I'm real dumb. please use small words when trying
to help.
Hello
well here we go,you need to set up a home network if you
haven't already,do this by naming each computer and your
workgroup, open network connections (control panel)you
will see your internet connection right click go to
properties left click the Local Area Connection
Properties will open add >Client for MS networks,File and
Printer Sharing,NWLink,&TCP/IP Protocol's< click
apply,OK, then when that closes you will still be at
network connections on the left you will see setup a home
network click on that run the wizard at the end create a
floppy to run on the laptop (be sure to set the loptop
the same)(same workgroup, different name) you need to
connect the printer to the desktop via USB (is best) then
set it up and get it printing, then go to Printers
(control panel)right click on default printer set to
share it then name it, then go to the loptop open
printers (control panel) on the left click add a printer
and then follow instuctions.
I probably forgot and left something out but hope this
will help because my fingers are tired of typing.
