Network Troubles with WRT54G Router and XP Pro

I recently setup a network with a WRT54G router from
Linksys and a couple laptops. I'm having trouble with
the XP notebook that is connected by ethernet cable to
the router. Whenever, I connect to the router the
computer doesn't respond properly. When it boots, the
system tray doesn't show all the icons it should, most
notably, the power options. After that, programs don't
always load when I try to launch them. As soon as I
unplug the network cable the porgrams run.

I've run XPs Network Diagnostics to try and figure it
out. It tells me that the DNSSearchOrder failed for my
Realtek ethernet card. I've also tried a different
ethernet adapter (wireless WPC54G) and got the same
results.

Can anyone help me? I tried asking Linksys and they
couldn't help. They told me if I figure it out to let
them know.

I've managed to find the source of my problem. Using
msconfig, I was able to determine that there is some sort
of conflict between two system services, namely Server
and Workstation. Can anyone explain why this conflict is
occuring?
