Losing TCP/ IP connection with server

Don

I'm constantly losing IP connection with internet server and mail server.
Opening the Network Connections and using the repair function to clear and
reassign IP and DNS seems to be a temporary fix.
Could some one give me the logical steps to analyze and fix the problem.

Using a Cable broadband connection from Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router to
Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC
* Installed SP2
* All LAN connection setting same as before
* Turned off the WindowsXP firewall since and WRT54G firmware has Firewall

* Ran McAfee VirusScan and Sypbot [no problems found]

* Updated Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC diver
* Updated firmware for Linksys WRT54G Broadband Router
* Installed new Terayon Cable Modem and updated firmware

When you have the problem, do you still have an IP, etc., in ipconfig /all?
Can you ping the servers by IP address? Ping the router's LAN IP?
Tried forcing your NIC speed to something other than autosense?
