NETWORK SHARING AND OTHER!!

Sorry to ask such a simple thing.....

I am running XP HOME SP2 and my wife is running XP PRO SP2

A network has been established in so much that she has internet access via
my machine.

We have been able to see files or folders but CANNOT SHARE....

Now I shall be changing to wireless again using BELKIN wireless tomorrow and
I have someone who is more than capable in doing this to help me.

What I do not understand, is why sometimes the network will show and
sometimes disappear again?

So I need simple instructions as to how to sort the network out and to share
files properly on both machines, along with internet access......... Do I
place "shortcuts" to folders in my shared bits and vice versa on the wife's?
or do I have to duplicate everything into the shared folders?

I and others have run the network wizard and followed everything windows has
said and got nowhere near what I want..... the wizard saves the network
wizard file to my key and then I run it on the wife's machine..........
Should the firewall on both machines be OFF?

I have removed Norton's from her machine as that was causing problems in the
past.

Also sharing a printer........ my printer is marked up and sorted for
sharing but the wife cannot print to it......... but having said that she
still can't find it via the network.

Finally is there any damned way of keeping folders views the way one leaves
them??

The beauty of windows 3.1 was that you could leave windows open or sized or
views changed........ and it would remain like that......

Many thanks to those who can give simple instructions for these stupid
questions !!

(snip lots of questions)

Since you are having someone who is "capable" come over to set up your
wireless router, wait until then and have him/her show you the answers
to your questions. I do hope this isn't just a friend who *says* s/he
is capable but someone who really *is* capable.

In the meantime, here are some links about home networking:
