I have a desktop running 2kpro with computer name "Desktop" and workgroup
name "WORKGROUP". I have a laptop running XP with computer name "Laptop" and
workgroup name "WORKGROUP". how in the world do I set them up where they can
share files back and forth and share a printer that is connected to the
desktop? thank you for your help.

Barring details you have not told us (like what kind of networking hardware
they're connected to, and what you've tried and what has or has not worked)
it sounds like you have things correctly configured at the moment ... so ...
?

Impossible to answer properly without knowing how they are connected.

If you just want to connect them together just a crossover cable should do
it, if you want the desktop to remain connected to the internet then a
router is the simplest answer, but without knowing the network layout it's
not possible to go much further.

See, that's why I rely on people like yourselves :). The desktop is
connected to a linksys router via ethernet and the laptop via wireless. The
internet works just fine and we have the connection secured where no one
outside can access the internet unless they have the logon and password. Any
more info you need? Thanks

Are both computers connected to the same router? Are any firewalls
configured to permit file and printer sharing? Does the Linksys router have
an "AP isolation" mode that needs to be turned off?
