LAN 2 Computer workgroup trouble

W

Willard

Both computers run Win2KproSP4 with latest updates and have been working
fine until now..
Desktop name "Mpc545" and Laptop name "GX3" are connected through a
Netgear Switch to a cable modem and then on to the Internet, which works
fine on the Internet with either or both..

(Mpc545) My Network Places> Computers Near Me>
"(X) Workgroup is not accessible"
"The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available"
However a Search> finds GX3 in location Workgroup and all files are
accessible from Mpc545.

(GX3) My Network Places> Computers Near Me>
Icons GX3 and Mpc545 show up o.k...
Click on Mpc545>
"(X) \\Mpc545 is not accessible"
"The network path was not found"
A Search> finds Mpc545 in location Workgroup, but click on Mpc545>
"Mpc545 is not accessible"
"The network path wasn't found"

I recently Installed "RegCure" on the GX3 Laptop, which may have caused
this problem????

Hello Willard,

Can you post an ipconfig /all from both computers.

Thanks for the "ipconfig /all" suggestion...
I noted that the "DNS search list" and the "Connection-specific DNS
suffix" were blank; so I changed out the current HDD to and old backup
HDD, booted the GX3 o.k., then changed back to the current HDD with the
fault; and now after the first boot everything works, the blanks were
filled in automatically o.k.....

Thanks again,
Willard :)
