Network question

I have 2 computers (both running XP PRO) networked together using a HUB. I
have run the "set up a home network wizzard" on both PC's. Each PC has the
other PC's C drive listed. But if you try to enter the other PC's C drive you
get a message that says you do not have premission to open these files and to
see the system administrator. How do I go about giving permission for each PC
to have full and unlimited access to each others files? All help appreciated.
Thanks.

Generally speaking it is NOT wise to share the root of the
drive....should only select special folders or files. But the way this
is changed is as follows:
Go to MY COMPUTER and RIGHT CLICK on the Drive, or folder or file that
you want to share and there is an option of Sharing/Security there.
Click that and follow the option to change (IF YOU REALLY WANT TO). Make
sure that you click both Share On Network and Allow others to change fiies.
That should do it....but remember what you did....anyone on the network
either locally or on the Internet that has access to your computer can
change and overwrite those files!!!!
Good luck

JHL is correct there are security issues if you are only using xp pro's
default mode; howver, there are means to protect and make more secure your
files.
Go to the control panel, select Folder Options, then select the view tab,
scroll down to the bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing", then click
o.k.
From here you will do as JHL suggested by right clicking the folder or drive
you want to share, and select properties. What is different now is that a
new tab appears that is called security.
Here you can add specific users and groups and various configurations, also
in advanced mode there are even more option such as inherit from parent....
etc.
You can also add and change various permissions each user or group has.
Again, be warned that if done incorrectly it can screw your machine up,
including applications that need to access the folders (only if done
incorrectly). But it is always recoverable in such modes as "DSREPAIR".

On each WinXP computer, create local user account(s), with
*non-blank* password(s), that have the desired access privileges to the
desired shares. Log on to the other PCs using those account(s), and you
will be able to access the designated shares, provided your network is
configured properly. Also, if running WinXP SP1 or later, make sure
that WinXP's built-in firewall is disabled on the internal LAN
connection. If using WinXP SP2, make sure that you've either disabled
the built-in firewall, or set the firewall to allow file and print sharing.

Usually, WinXP's Networking Wizard makes it simple and painless --
almost entirely automatic, in fact. There's a lot of useful,
easy-to-follow information in WinXP's Help & Support files, and here:
