Network prob. need help to find solution

Hi,

Running Win2K Pro, my computer cannot access to the 2 PCs
linked by hub, TCP/IP.

The 2 other computers (Win98E and XP pro) see themselves
and the 2 users can comunicate and exchange documents. But
both cannot see "the server" running W2K pro. Each ping
command sent to it fails.

"The server" cannot access to the network neighbour. In
the network configuration I can see: client for MS
network, the share option for printers and files, and
TCP/IP protocol.

I don't use for all computers DHCP, I fix myself ip
adress. In the settings, I've my FAI dns ip adress and the
gateway is the "server" ip adress (192.168.0.5).

Any one can help me?

Thanks for any post in this way.

Make sure all computers are in the same workgroup and that all useraccounts
exist on all computers (W2K/XP's). Got File- and printersharing loaded? Is
Netbios over TCP/IP enabled (Advanced properties of TCP/IP, tab WINS)?
Check the ipconfig/all. Are all IP's in the same range (first 3 octets
should be the same) and same subnet?

Thank's for your reply Marina.

Yes, all of these params are OK. So, when I try to give a
static adress to the TCP/IP parameters, (192.168.0.1) the
system tells me that this one is always atributed to
another network card.

Very strange, because I have only one on this computer. Is
there a place or file in which the system keeps the link
between IP adress and mac adress?

Thanks for your help.

See you.

If you're using ICS to get on the internet, from which computer are you
doing that and how did you setup that TCP/IP?

The computer I speak about is the "server" of my home
network. This one has the Internet connexion and has 2
kinds of connexion in the system. Network one which has
problem and the Internet one which is right and works.

I gave you a local adress as 192.168.0.1. this one is the
TCP/IP parameter of the network connexion on the "server".

The problem I explained is that the network card on it is
considered as the #2.

Why?

Is it possible than Win2K keeps in mind an old network
card I have changed with this #2? How can I erase this
remember of the #1 card?

The 2 others computers linked to it by network can see
themselves and can exchange files but cannot see their
gateway in their network neightborough (the "server").

What can you suggest to me to do to find the network card
#1: the ghost NIC?

Thanks for your help.

Oh, I've forgot to say that the TCP/IP parameter of the
Internet connexion are given by my ICS. That's to say DHCP
and fixed IP DNS adresses (primary and secondary). Those
last adresses(DNS) are those used in my other PC's DNS IP
adresses in their network connexions.

As the "server" IP adress (192.168.0.1) is their gateway
IP adress, they cannot see the server even thay are all 3
in the same workgroup with files and printings shares and
TCP/IP protocol. The 2 clients see and work together
without any problem.

Is it serious doc?

Hi Uranus,

It's a bit confusing.
The W2K that is doing the ICS, how many nics and how does the ipconfig/all
look like?
If you're using ICS, you should be using static IP's.
How does the ipconfig/all from the other computers look like?
