Error 53 when tring to connect a share from ms client 3.0

I have a w2k pro machine with 2 IP-Adresses in different sub nets on
one nic.
If I configure the dos client to communicate with the the primary
adress 192.168.1.1 , everything is ok.
If i try to map a drive with the secondary adress 192.168.55.1, I get
the Error 53: The Computer name specified in the network path cannot
be located.
The dos client have in this case a adress in the secondary net
192.168.55.11.

I have tried the full redirector and use the ip in net use command,
but without success.
I have entered the w2k machine in lmhosts and hosts on the client.
I can ping the w2k machine with name and ip.
If i try a net view I get the message Error 6118: The list of servers
for this workgroup is currently not available.

Please can some one help me with this.

I think the problem is that, since the computers are in the different
subnets
netbios broadcasts are not reaching the other computer. I think the computer
on
which you are mappping the drives, also need to have the host file entries
with
correct IP addresses and host names.

Thank you for your answer.

In both cases both computer are on the same subnet.
1. case the dos client has the adress 192.168.1.11
2. case the dos client has the adress 192.168.55.11

Only in the first case I can connect to the share on the w2k machine.
I have tried to make entry for the dos client in the host and lmhost
on the w2k machine. The result stays the same. Error 53 if I try to
connect from the dos machine to the share on the w2k machine.
I have also tried to connect from an other w2k machine to the share
and it works.
Even if the 2. w2k machine is in the net 192.168.55.0.
