Hi
I would like to transfer data from my desktop pc to my notebook using the
firewire ports.
Desktop PC:
Windows 2000 Pro
Firewire-PCI Card
Notebook:
Windows XP Home
Firewire on board.
I would appreciate if someone could help me with a basic step by step guide
to do this, if at all possible.
Thanks

Hi
You are better of doing it through the network cards (if both computers have
them).
However if you want to stay with Firewire you have to install the Firewire
as a network devices and then configure the Computers File Sharing.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network
settings,http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.

Hi Jack
Thanks for your reply, but please forgive me I am lost.
I am a newby to network and really hope you can help with this.
The pc I want to connect to is a Windows2000pro
I am connecting with a Notebook XP Home

I am not familar with networking and would like some pointers as to where to
set up these devices. When I plug the firewire in on the notebook my 2000
prompts me "found new hardware" 1394 PC
When I try to complete the wizard I cant find drivers anywhere on my
original CD
What do I need to do

Thanks
Wayne

Hi
The original Win2000 CD probably does not have the drivers for the firewire.
Log to the support site of the Laptop and see if they have a download of the
Firewire Drivers.
Look at this page as well there are USB solution (need to buy inexpensive
USN transfer cable).
Direct Connect - http://www.ezlan.net/direct.html
