Hello.
When I do a ipconfig /all on all our machines, the network shows as
'mshome.net' and not the name of my network.
Is this normal? I'm sure I remember before a few months ago it came up with
the actual name that I've configured.
It seems to have changed I think when the SP2 updates were downloaded but
maybe I'm dreaming.
Anyone?

Domain or workgroup?
Using DHCP or static addresses?

What do you mean by "the name of my network", Jay? Do you mean the
name of the workgroup that the computer belongs to?

The output from ipconfig doesn't show the workgroup name anywhere,
because that name has nothing to do with the TCP/IP configuration.

Is the computer's host name shown as "computer.mshome.net"? If so,
you're seeing a DNS suffix, not a network (workgroup) name, and it's
OK. "Mshome.net" might be coming from a DHCP server on your network:
an ICS host computer, broadband router, etc.

If that doesn't help, please copy/paste the ipconfig output into a
news group reply for other people to see.

It's a workgroup
and yes, the name of the workgroup that the computers belong to.
Thanks for help on this.

I should also add that DHCP is disabled and IP is allocated automatically

Doh
I've just read your reply again and yes that's exactly it, it's DNS suffix.
So I don't need to worry right?
I'm just getting to grips with all this so I was panicking that my workgroup
was there for the world to see.
Thanks for your help

You're welcome, and there's nothing to worry about.
