Network Help

I have a home office computer running XP Home Edition. My brother has an
office computer with XP Home Edition with a static IP address networked to
another computer running XP Pro with a dynamic IP address. I want connect to
his Home Edition across the internet through a VPN connection to help do his
book work. I can make the connection, but do not know how to network the
computers. Will my brother have to upgrade to a version of windows that has
some kind of Remote Access, such as Remote Desktop, or Windows Server? I have
used Remote Desktop in the past, but my brother will not be able to use his
computer while I am connected. I intended to make a VPN connection to the Pro
computer and use Remote Desktop from there but because of the dynamic IP I am
not able to. Does anyone know of a solution without having to spend more on
upgrades. I have used Windows Server in the past but would rather use a
simpler version. Thank You in advance

Do both computers have an active internet connection?

If so, I would recommend leaving the network alone and use netmeeting,
(conf.exe) or install Windows Live Messenger on both systems, and use remote
assistance, although Netmeeting is the easiest for what you are trying to do.

C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\Conf.exe

the setup is relatively simple. Ensure that you enable "Remote Desktop
Sharing" from the tools menu once you have set up the program. This will
allow you to share the desktop on his end, and you will each be able to use
the system.
