Iam using windows XP professional v5.1.

Iam trying to enable the remote desktop connection.

Iam able to communicate from another PC on the local LAN. That means my set
up is o.k. But Iam not able to communicate from remote location say from my
home to office.

I tried the notes on
http://theillustratednetwork.mvps.org/RemoteDesktopSetupandTroubleshooting.html
.. As per the notes I have tried to connect by using my public IP address from
the web site No-IP.com. Still unsuccessfull.

Next I tried to create host name of No-IP.com, as raviipt.no-ip.biz . I
tried to connect using this name but still canoot.

Can anyone help me.

Thanks

Ravi

You will probably need your IT dept to give you instructions on how to set
up a VPN - Virtual Private Network - in order to connect to your office
network...

Thanks for your reply.

I had further checked the port querry tools, and identified that my public
IP is not listening to port 3389. Iam further checking with our network
personnel to recheck the office firewall settings. Our office network is with
20 clients and a server and we connect to the internet through an external
firewall. I had instructed to switch off, which they have confirmed they did.
But today Iam calling the network personnel to show me the setting and check
if ther is any way of enabling port 3389. If I still have difficulties I
shall reply you.

ADSL to ADSL is a pain in the butt.
If it's only for a short time, see if you can use dialup one end.
I believe the problem has been fixed in Vista.
There is a work-around but it needs an "expert" on each end. (google?)

Hi there, Ravi. I had the same problem. Marconi router or Netgear did not
work.

What you need to do is forward the firewall port to the ip address of the pc
you are trying to access, sound simple but it took me a while, you may mail
me directly for more detail
