Network Faxing without having to add users

E

Extreme

I have a Win2k3 server with faxing installed on it in a novell
environment and i would like to let all of my users use the fax serve.
But i dont really want to go through the hastle of recreating all of
my users on the windows machine. I had done a test install of this
setup on a server before and in the beginning i was able to use the
fax server without having to create any users but after a while it
failed to work without the users being created on the windows server.
And insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken,

Thank you for posting!

Let us try to enable Guest account on the Windows 2003 Server, and then
grant the Guest account the permission to print to the Fax printer.

1. Click "Start", right click "My Computer" and choose "Manage" from the
context menu
2. Expand "System Tools" branch, "Local Users and Groups" branch
3. Highlight "Users" item
4. On the right pane, double click "Guest". Guest account is disabled by
default
5. Uncheck "Account is disabled" option
6. Click "Start", point to "Printers and Faxes", it will lauch Printers and
Faxes folder
7. You will see a Fax icon in the folder. If you cannot see this icon,
right blank area in the folder, and choose "Install a Local Fax Printer"
from the context menu.
8. Right click the Fax icon, choose "Properties" menu from the context menu
9. Choose "Security" tab, click "Add..." button, type "Guests" (without
quotation marks) in the text box, and click "OK" button.
10. Grant proper right to Guest account and click "OK" button to apply the
settings.

The above steps will enable everyone even the user without authentication
to use Fax printer on the Windows 2003 Server. However, I am not familar
with the configruation in the Novell environment, please find someone to
help you to check the settings if the users in Novell environment can
access the Windows 2003 Server.

Have a nice day!
