My system is running fine, but the icon that shows the two flashing computor
screens in the system tray is missing, likewise, the icon is also missing out
of the network connections folder, I have tried different things from the
windows knowledge base without any luck, any ideas andybody?

want network in sys tray:? control panel, network connection, right click
on the network (Local Area Network?) you want the icon in systray,
select property
when the properties windows pops up, enable (check)Show Icon in
notification area.
this is near the bottom of the popup window
Ok

What if you network does not appear under network connection?
ensure it is not hidden by using explorer setting it to show hidden
files. If truly not found
try create new connection from network connection.

Good luck

I too am having a similar problem. Even when i checked the 'show item in
notification area' option, neither my network or internet connections are
dispplayed in the toolbar.
My rainmeter monitor is also reading my IP as 0.0.0.0, whether connected to
the internet or not, where as usually it will display my connection address
or 127.0.0.1(home) when disconected.
The last part of the problem is i have to disconnect through my Network
Connections folder, but when i do this access to the connection freezes.

In a related matter I had to do a repair install of xp and every thing is
working but I can not set up a local area connection to get on the web. When
I go into Network Connections/ the right hand side of the display is blank,
(no Local Area Connections icon).

I confirmed that the system sees that I have an ethernet card. What do I
need to do? Should I do a clean reinstall of XP???
