network communications has disapearred

hi,
I have connections set up so i can logon to the net
and everything was ok until a couple of days ago. Now
when i go to "My network places" it doesn"t show me any
connections at all. I can still logon to the net (after i
open "internet explorer". I tried setting up a new
connection which i did successfully but it still doesn"t
appear in "Network places"or "Netrwork connections"/
Also the icon in the tray which shows u are connected
doesn"t appear.

I"d be grateful for some help
