network connections missing from control panel

Network connections is missing from my control panel, and
the desktop and taskbar icons are gone too. I have tried
adding programs (e.g. networking) from xp in the control
panel, but it doesn;t alter the situation. Does anybody
have an idea?

The whole control panel is gone, or it is just empty? What about running
"ncpa.cpl"?

control panel is ok, but there is no "network
connections" link/icon, and accessing it from anywhere
else also results in no action taken. I ran ncpa.cpl but
it didn't seem to alter anything. Had a trojan recently,
perhaps that altered the regedit?

Strange. How about running "regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\netshell.dll" and
trying ncpa.cpl again.
